“Thy Greatness, My Nothingness”

Soren Kierkegaard once prayed, “God in Heaven, let me really feel my nothingness, not in order to despair over it, but in order to feel the more powerfully the greatness of Thy goodness.”

What an odd prayer. What a beautiful prayer. What a powerful and honest prayer.

I just went to Asheville, NC where I saw such views as:

Those hills and the verdant abundance of everything in that part of the world have a way of making you see greatness and feeling nothingness at the same time.

So in the odd way that Kierkegaard taught us to pray, “…Let me really feel my nothingness… to feel the more powerfully the greatness of Thy goodness.”

Grace & Peace.
